The Experts in the Forensic Toxicology Section carry out comprehensive range of analysis to identify poisons for medico legal purposes and crime investigations. Post mortem samples forwarded by judicial medical officers in suspicious sudden deaths are subjected to analysis for narcotic drugs, different types of poisons, cyanide, corrosive acids, carbon monoxide etc.
In fatal accidents, the blood and urine of the drivers alleged to be under the influence of alcohol are analyzed for alcohol levels and for the presence of any narcotic drugs.
Further, any physical evidence like drugs, tablets, poison bottles, food are analyzed for identification of above mentioned poisons and drugs etc.
