Food and Water section conduct a broad range of analysis for the various categories of food samples, milk products and water (Potable, Bottled water and industrial effluents) submitted by the authorized officers under Food Act (No. 26 of 1980). Government institutions (MOH offices, RDHS Offices, Food Control Administration Unit, Department of customs. Consumer Affairs Authority, Department of Excise etc.) and tri -forces are the main institutions who send samples for analysis and obtain quality reports.
Potable water samples are reported under the Sri Lanka Standards requirements and bottled water samples are reported under Food regulation for bottled or packaged water. Residue analysis (Trace elements/ pesticide residue/aflatoxin) for water/ fruits and vegetables/ cereals is carried out on request of the sending institution. The laboratory is accredited under ISO 17025: 2017 for several parameters.
