Who can submit samples to the Milk Division?
- Mainly Authorized officers under Food Act No: 26 1980 (Food & Drug Inspectors, PHI, etc ) and officers from other relevant Government Institutes.
Is it possible general public to submit sample directly to the Milk Division?
- No general Public cannot directly submit to the Milk Division. They can make complain to the Authorized officers, accordingly the relevant Authorized Officers can collect samples and submit to the milk Division.
What type of milk products analyse at the Milk Division?
- Basically any type of milk product (fresh milk, milk powder, yoghurt, curd, ice cream, flavoured milk, cheese, etc..) is analyse at the Division.
What type of analysis carried out at the Milk Division?
- Mainly at the Milk Division we carried out analysis on milk fat, protein, sugar, preservatives, contaminants in milk (DCD and melamine), etc..

Water Section
What are the dates for sample submission?
- For potable water and Bottled water : Every month from Monday to Friday Except last five working days of the month.
- For Industrial Effluents : Every week Wednesday and Thursday (If Friday is not a public holiday) except last five working days of the month. It is advisable to contact laboratory relevant officer prior to collect and submit the samples.
How to submit samples to GAD?
By relevant authorized officers from Ministry of Health and other relevant organizations.
How much quantity required?
- 3 liters for chemical analysis.
- One liter separately in glass bottles for oil and grease analysis.
Is there special requirements needed?
- All the potable water and industrial effluent shall submit within 24 hours of collection.
- Industrial water samples shall collect from the final discharge point. Also contact the water laboratory of GAD prior to collection of the sample.
What type of analysis carried out for water?
Only chemical analysis,
- According to Sri Lanka Standards for potable water SLS 614: 2013
- Food (Bottled or packaged water) Regulation - 2005
